Visit the Cowal Peninsula from Tarbert

The west of the Cowal Penisula is easily accessable from Tarbert via a short ferry journey. The Tarbert to Portavadie ferry is the Diesel Hybrid the MV Lochinvar.

The ferry has been designed to accommodate 150 passengers, 23 cars or 2 HGVs, with a service speed of nine knots and is powered by small diesel generator sets, feeding power to a 400 volt switchboard, which will supply power to electric propulsion motors that turn the propulsion units.

The ferry slip at Portavadie is only a short walk from Portavadie Marina. Just 30 minutes by bike is the village of Tighabruich on the Kyles of Bute or 10 minutes by car with Kames a few hundred yards away.

It should be noted that the West of Cowal and specifically the area around the Kyles of Bute is Internationally reknowned for its beauty. Visiting this wee bit of Scotland from Tarbert as a day trip is highly recommended.
